The Cure
Statement of Intend

For a couple of months, I've been witnessing my Father's struggle with cancer. Despite hoping that the treatment helps him get better, all I could see was his sore, weakening body exposed to poisonous substances. My intention for this project is to share the feeling of incredulity mixed with a desperate urge to believe that the treatment is successful.

The audience for my image set is the general public because I believe that sharing experiences can raise awareness about the impact of cancer on individuals, promote empathy and understanding, and inspire support for cancer research, prevention, and treatment efforts, similar to Nancy Borowick’s series of photographs titled 'Cancer Family' that has inspired me.

My intention is to create a series of six product photographs in a fine art genre illustrating the impact of treatment. The series will depict fruits and vegetables in different phases of freshness, from fresh and healthy to spoiled and rotten. As the freshness diminishes, produce will be subjected to multiple injections of non-organic fluids. The colour of the images will intensify across the series to mimic the increased intensity of therapy. The image initialising the series will be in monochrome only to suggest the most remote memories.

I will capture the images with artificial lighting, straight on, in a 6:7 format - the classic aspect ratio of medium format film photography. The images will be staged and manipulated to achieve artistic vision as I would like to share my dominant emotion of the recent months.
